Getting there
Scheduled speedboats leave Malé airport and the city several times a day. About 30–45 minutes, $20–40 per person each way depending on operator. We can book your seat.
Where to stay
Family-run guesthouses from $50 a night up to seaview hotels around $200. Most are within a ten-minute walk of the beach and jetty.
Money
US dollars are accepted everywhere and cards work in most guesthouses and restaurants. Carry some cash for small cafés and boat tickets.
Best time to visit
November to April is the dry season with calm seas and clear skies. May to October is greener and quieter, with occasional showers.
Local etiquette
Maafushi is an inhabited local island. Swimwear is for Bikini Beach and excursions; cover shoulders and knees in the village. No alcohol is sold on the island.
What to pack
Reef-safe sunscreen, a hat, light cover-ups, water shoes for the reef and a dry bag for boat trips. Plug type G, 230V.

Speedboat timetable
Two operators run daily between Malé and Maafushi. Boats leave from the airport ferry terminal and the Villingili jetty in Malé.
- Prices differ by operator ($20–40); book a day ahead in high season.
- Since June 2026 the Malé city boats leave from the temporary terminal opposite the Police Service building; Friday times shift for prayers.
- We can arrange your ticket and meet you at the Maafushi jetty.
